All we have to do is listen. Think about all the things you may listen to in your day. My day is less than half over and already I have listened to audio on the internet, in my car (both talk radio and music) to the conversation about burritos that the people in line behind me were having at Chipotle, I've listened to friends and colleagues on the phone, and I've taken some time to listen to God.
How many days go by in which we don't take time to do the latter on the list? Sometimes it's just a little too easy, or maybe we're just so used to having everything made obvious for us that we don't want to have to try to listen. Think about it, we live in a society in which companies are sued because they didn't warn their customers that their coffee (a drink most often served hot), was hot. Do we really need things to be that obvious? If so, how does this co-exist with the idea that we are still "evolving" into beings of "higher" intelligence. Will we eventually have shoes that have directions for tying the laces written on them, in case we forget? How about a coat that has the directions for putting it on and zipping it up printed on the lining?
Sometimes God is obvious in His communications with us...
sometimes
He's
not.
Don't let the obvious nature of the majority of the input in our lives acclimate your ears and heart to a point of not being able to hear the less obvious. Sometimes we just need to slow down and be quiet. Does silence scare you? Is it unbearable to sit in a room alone without a radio, TV or mp3 player turned on? If so, you might just be de-evolutionizing yourself with the obvious.
"Be still and know that I am God."
